Most marketing agency founders understand the value of generating new leads. But what about the opportunities that are already sitting in your business?
An old proposal. A prospect who stopped responding. A customer who expressed interest in additional services but never made a decision.
Before you spend more money attracting new prospects, it may be worth examining the business opportunities you have already earned.
And AI can help you do that.
The Revenue You Haven’t Revisited
Imagine you run a marketing agency and sent 20 proposals over the past six months.
Some became customers. Others were declined. Several never received a clear answer.
The traditional response is to focus on new leads.
But another option is to review those unfinished conversations.
Maybe a prospect postponed a campaign. Maybe the timing was wrong. Maybe the original service package didn’t match their budget.
You don’t know until you inspect the evidence.
That’s where ChatGPT becomes useful.
Give AI One Specific Responsibility
Instead of asking AI to find new customers, give it a smaller assignment: help you review one stalled sales opportunity.
Find a proposal that never received a final decision, along with your last exchange with the prospect.
Remove confidential information you are not authorized to share. Then provide the relevant material to ChatGPT.
Try this prompt:
Act as my sales review assistant. I’m an established marketing agency founder. Review this unfinished proposal and the latest prospect conversation. Identify what we actually know, what information is missing, whether a follow-up might be appropriate, and what business question should be answered next. Draft a short, professional follow-up message. Do not invent customer intentions, promises, or previous conversations. Do not send anything.
Turn the Review Into a Business Decision
ChatGPT might identify a reasonable opportunity to reconnect. It might also discover that the prospect clearly declined or that the situation is too uncertain.
Both findings are useful.
Your responsibility is to inspect the recommendation.
Ask yourself:
- Is the information accurate?
- Is there a legitimate reason to follow up?
- Does the proposed message respect the relationship?
- Is the potential opportunity worth pursuing?
Correct anything AI misunderstood. Approve a message only when it reflects your judgment.
Then decide whether to contact the prospect.
One Useful Experiment
Start with just three old proposals.
Review each one and decide whether it deserves attention.
You might discover an opportunity worth restarting, a sales objection worth understanding, or a reason to improve future proposals.
You might also discover that none deserves another call.
That’s useful information too.
The objective isn’t to manufacture a sale. It’s to make a more informed decision with information you already have.
